Just curious but does anyone know "for sure" if a Pilot cylinder will bolt to a FL350 bottom end ??
Is the bolt pattern the same or is it different ??
I think you yoyo's know why I ask :-) .

Edit: If someone has a base gasket for the Pilot laying around, please measure the bolt hole pattern measurements and post here please. Thx.

You're the search ninja on this site, did't someone do this swap already? I thought I remembered something about having to machine lower part of the cylinder for crank clearance?

I could be confusing it with another build, but I thought it was here.

I couldn't find anything.
There are many swaps but I couldn't find this one.
If you get time, make a drawing of the measurements of the base gasket and take a pic. Post it.
Thx in advance.

at this point it seems it would be easy enough to just swap out the entire Ody with a Pilot Engine

Yes I could just swap an oddy Engine out for a pilot Engine, but I don't think that some people get it.
This is all about challenges, succeeding, failing, knowledge, and mechanical fun.
I really enjoy mechanical and failure IS an option. I am not afraid to fail.
Got a lot of things on my plate at the moment, so just hunting for info.

List:
1) currently building forge to melt aluminum for pistons
2) making molding sand and grind up kitty litter --- done
3) make cope and drag boxes --- done
4) dream up ways to make a mold for liquid cooled heads
5) re-manufacture wiseco blown pistons
6) build an Engine with homemade piston and test run
7) build an Engine with re-manufactured wiseco piston and test run
8) test run a vacuum pump to see if it will push oil -------------- Edit: NO
9) unknown at this time

I think it's great, this is where innovations come from, I have a plan to build my pilot into a long travel.
Which brings me to an off topic question, well not really off topic, I need some info, does anyone know what morse taper is on the pilot for the rear spindle A arm ball joint connection? I am assuming that is a morse taper, please feel free to correct me. I need to make the upper portion of the arm and do not want to butcher up the arms I have which are in perfectly good condition.

I found this but don't know if this is what you are looking for: https://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/g ... de-231487/
I am azzumin you wanted to know ball joint taper.
Hummmm possible future project :-)

Thanks CO, I knew I could count on you, looks like there are several varieties, I will have to pop the upper a arm ball joint and measure, if it is 7.15 degree would a 7 degree reamer work? probably not but have to ask, looks like a 7.15 will run $85 and the small end is 7/16" that may be close, the 7 degree Chinese reamers are less than $15, if it would do 2 holes I'd be happy, more would be better:)

did a search, amazing how that works, found this
from Lee some time ago
" taper is 1 in 10 (for every 10mm depth, the diameter reduces by 1 mm)"
that would make it 5.72 degrees?

if this is correct, I could get one for each hole

I don't want to steer you wrong here.
I have not had to do anything with the tapers on my machines yet, so I don't really know. One of the bottom "A" arms on my brothers machine is pounded out of round because of crashes but it's still holding well. Not likely I will be FN around with it until I have too.
As for those Chinese de-burring tools I would be suspect of quality and correct taper. Those idiots can't even make a left hand die. I ordered one of those last year and it would not cut. After closer inspection under a magnifying glass I saw that the first thread was angled wrong, so it could not start the cut. That's why it didn't work. I had to dremmel the correct angle and now it works. Idiots.
You need the correct angle or your contact patch will be wrong and then it will only be touching on a single contact point. For what it's worth I would try it anyways and then report back here. Just my opinions.

Holy crap. I love your enthusiasm. I wish I had some of that, and I wish you were closer so you could help me with my projects.
