So awhile back I purchased a Hondaline tachometer that was removed from a FL350. It included the full installation accessory’s. The mount, wire harness, frame pad, and even installation instructions.

While I could install this on one of my odyssey’s, I would like to install it on my pilot.

Is this the same tach used on the FL400 pilot? Does anyone have the pilot installation installations for this accessory? Does anyone have one installed on their pilot they could send me photos of how it was installed & wiring etc. ?

It's the same unit because the parts numbers are the same.

Thanks guys for the great info. I am going to look it over more carefully but I should be able to install it on the pilot from the looks of it.

I noticed the for sale post right after I posted this. I guess they do fetch good money in NOS condition. I purchased this one second hand for much less than those on eBay. It’s in fairly good condition for its age.

I started the installation of my Tach on my pilot.

When I started this tread awhile back I had reached out to site member PilotPete1. He responded to me and stated that he had found the required plugs to install the tachometer on a Honda TRX 400 foreman ATV. Last week I purchased a used harness from a 1999 TRX Foreman and it did indeed have the correct plugs. I know what I have to do to complete the harness at this point but I have hit a road block. I can't seem to find the correct crimp ends to rewire the plugs to the correct configuration.

Does anyone have a lead on the correct ends, Know what they are called, where to purchase them?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question but it appears you want different size crimped ends on those three wires.
If that is what you are asking then aren't those just standard stak-on crimps ??
You would have to save those little rubber boots and reuse them but the metal ends are just stak-on ---- No ??
They also appear to be very narrow which tells me it's the electronic style connector.
Any industrial supplier of electrical equipment would have those.
If I misunderstood the question and you are looking for the plastic part then I would be going to electronics shops or even Honda.

Thank you for the reply CO.

I just need the stak-on crimps. I did go to a motorcycle shop and compared them to the "standard" crimps that they use. They were close but theirs were a little bit larger than the ones I removed. I think you are correct, they must be a electronics style. There are no more electronics stores in existence near where I live. All they sell now are cell phones.

I found kits online but they all look to be the "standard" size not these smaller ones.

I have sent pilotpete1 a message on the forum but I don't think he comes on here much anymore. There has got to be a size or name for these particular ones.

Odyssey FL350 Pulser wire VS Pilot FL400 pulser wire

So another differance that I have noticed between the FL350 harness installation package and the FL400 installation package is the pulser wire.

This is a Black/Yellow wire(s) that runs from the tach to the the pulser coil.

- On the FL350, this is a single wire. It has a bullet connector at the tach. The other end has a piggyback spade connector, connected to the coil. (see photo)

- On the FL400, there are two wires. It has a bullet connector at the tach with both wires crimped to it. The other end has one wire with a female spade, the other wire with a male spade. (see photo)

My thinking is that this is the same thing.... but I can't help but question it!
On the FL400... why would they want the pulser signal go all the way to the Tach in the front of the buggy and then back to the coil vs the way the FL350 came?!?!? Would it make the tach more accurate?

I could be totally over thinking this but wanted others opinions. Whats your thoughts?

I'm not an electron mechanic but I can't see it making any difference.
It's not like we are try to transmit power several hundred miles down a power line.
Anybody else ??

I do not think it does. I would bet it is spliced in the harness. If any thing maybe a blocking diode or resister. One could check with a meter. I would not cut open to find out. On one of my tachs I run a single wire from that post to the tach. No fancy harness. It just a sensor wire.

Thank you both for a reply.

I only have an original installation harness for the FL350 installation kit so I cannot test the pilot pulser harness wire with a meter unfortunately. I will put my meter on the FL350 setup & try to verify but I believe that it is just a wire.

I am going to try it with the FL350 single wire piggyback configuration on my pilot and see how it does. It sounds like it is working just fine for your tach adnoh.

The parts that I ordered are correct fitment! :-)

The plugs are the exact same besides color. This is a big savings for anyone trying to convert the tach for their pilot as the TRX 400 harness cost me $35 vs the $6 plug.

I am going to be making 3 harness sets. One for me and two for others. Just waiting on some shrink tube now.
