Post subject:  My Honeys Pilot

Hello to all, after almost four years and a rough rode my wife wants to ride her pilot. So, hi ho hi ho its off to work I go.

I will give a little history and what all I have done to this pilot another day.

For now here are some pictures of the very nice transmission and axles I got from a very good friend of mine (thank you rarerat), I cleaned everything up, serviced the axles with new cv grease and new oem inner boots both sides the outers are still in good shape, new oem Engine and transmission mounts.

I fully rebuilt the steering column with a new shaft, all new bushings upper and lower, new column thrust ring, tie rods and tie rod ends. All oem Honda.

Take care.

Yes sir, I think it will be very good for her not only fun wise but its a good workout as well and when you are having fun you do not realize it. With all of the medications she has to take I think it will help not only get her stronger but also to keep things flowing in the body.
I look at getting it on in a pilot, as one hell of a rough massage. LOL.

Nice work Steve. I always enjoy your pictures. Nice to see you using some of those NOS parts you have stashed. Isn't it great when the wife wants to ride, much more fun for you then a wife that complains that you are riding to much. :-)

When greasing the outer I have one of those small pistol grip grease guns that I only put CV grease in. I use a needle tip to inject the grease behind the race and around the ball bearings. It is hard to get the grease down in the race and ball bearings on that outer joint. Just offering an idea.

I hope your Son and Wife realize how lucky they are to have you around to build such nice machines for them. I'm sure they do. If you ever want to adopt a middle aged, slightly over weight, slightly balding white guy (emphasis on slightly), let me know. :-)

Hello Rich I hope you are doing well, thank you for the kind remarks. Just wait more to come.
I am very lucky to have my wife, her loving her pilot really makes it worth the work and money.

That is a very very good idea on the cv grease, I squeeze the grease in to the cage with the grease tube, after getting the outer boot on but before I put the inner joint on I take the axle and swing it in circles as fast and as long as I can, CV grease is not very thick and I think doing this pulls it in to the joint, I also squeeze the boot and try to push the grease in to the joint.

Take care buddy.

Steve, it is coming together nicely! Keep up the great work and keep those pics coming. It's motivation to keep me on track with the one I am currently workng on.

Can't you take the out board joint off that way you can really get in there to inspect, clean, and grease. The only draw back might be that when you do that you need to replace the snap ring which I think is discontinued. You might be able to pick up a close match at a place that specializes in cv joints?

Take care buddy and enjoy the 3 day weekend:()

Hello Chris, thank you for the kind words. It's coming along slowly, I had wanted to work on it all weekend but that did not work out. The outboard joint does come off but it takes a lot of force, I have never taken one off my self.

Take care and I hope to go for a ride soon.

Hello Marc, I hope you are doing well. My cousin was in Wild Hogs, he was one of the big bad bikers. Can you blame her 500cc and LT, oh what fun.
Yes we sure do need to get together, hopefully this is the year that I get all my machines up and running. Hopefully!!!

Take care.

The red skulls are a nice touch. What is going on with the rear lower links attached to the knuckles. Is that for some better adjustment over stock?

The skulls were on the pilot when we got it, we had planned on taking them off but they kind of grew on us and now I have a set on my pilot as well, they are tied in to the brake light.
The rear lower links were like that when we bought the pilot, I checked them next to new ones and they are dead on stock length.

Post subject:  Re: My Honeys Pilot

Here are some pictures of the nos rear brake caliper I am building to put on her pilot, everything is new accept the bracket, pad protector, e. brake adjuster bolt and the mounting bolts. I thought I had new mounting bolts but I have searched everywhere and can not find them.

I have a new speedchaser rear caliper bracket that I bought a long time ago ( I must say the quality of speeds bracket is 100% professional, it is heavier then the original and very very well made), I have chosen (after long debate with myself) to use a used 1990 bracket that I have that is in excellent condition. I want to keep it all oem. I will use the speedchaser rear bracket on my LT pilot, I am much harder on my brakes then she will ever be.

I sure wish speedchaser would make some more of the brackets.

If anyone has any of the new oem rear brake caliper parts I am missing other then the mounting bolts, I would very much appreciate a chance to buy them or I might have a nos part you need to trade. I know it is a serious long shot but I have to ask.

Glad you were able to find a NOS rear caliper piston. You sure had me tempted to sell you mine, as I knew it would go to a good home. I also need a NOS rad protector to complete my set. I have a good used one. Doubt I will ever find a new one.

What's up with the hose Honda is selling, 95005-11001-30M? It looks to be black vacuum hose. They sell you a foot when all you need is an inch. I thought the OEM hose/cover for the spring was a clear hose - not black. I never really understood why the spring needs the hose anyway?

Hey buddy I hope you are well, the lever return spring has the clear hose over it. The park switch spring has black hose and the new spring does not come with the hose, the only way to buy the hose is to buy a whole dang roll.

Take care Sir.
