Picked up another Engine for this buggy. Rotax 583 looks to be a low mile/hour Engine. The pipes will come off the old one. Just a pic of the right side, left side will need the first part of the pipe coming out of Engine made as it was missing.

Edit.... such vs my prior typo of (suck) a great Engine, you say you’ll use the other pipe and headed... it would be cool to see the twins out back... so you think there is space? |

This buggy came originally with a 583 when it was built. The mount for the Engine is nothing like a pilot or ody conversion. The twin pipes fit with room to spare. The original air intake and air cleaner setup are missing. If I can find a picture I will try to make it as close to original as possible. If not I have a setup in mind. I have a pic of the old Engine in the buggy with the pipes I will post it up. This one is really rough at the moment. I made a list of what I needed and before it comes apart I’m trying to get all that it needs rounded up so it doesn’t end up on the back burner. The exhaust is a two piece design. One of the headers is missing and I will need to get one made. The pipes will need some “massaging” as well. My friends like to call them “another truck on the train tracks project”

It’s a very simple mounting setup. Exhaust strap cut to length on the Main pipe, silencers are like all others. |

Another piece of the transmission is completed. The top gear in the picture was torn up when the driven shaft bent from not being supported. The new “er” gear was machined to match. I have to get brass sleeves made for the forward/reverse gears.then to have the new cases machined for the larger bearings. Slowly...

I was able to source a set of cases from a guy on fb along with some internals. I will be able to use the driven shaft. It also had a version with an open differential. I had the case side I needed machined to accept the larger bearings and collars etc. next up will be the shafts. I still keep in contact with BS and he sent me down a driven shaft so that I could get the measurements off of it to convert the ones I have to match. Anyways here at a few pics

Another cool project. I bought some stuff from him years ago. Tell BS to stop in here from time to time. I hope he is well. I think he had a stroke years ago. Tell him I said hi. CO |

He has sold the pilot, for awhile he was into the SxS scene. Now he is messing around with atc70’s. They are the latest overpriced fad. Only other thing he does is work, I think he checks in but just doesn’t reply to anything. Bob |

Picked up the driven shaft from the machine shop. They turned the splined area down to match the shaft BS sent me. I just need to get bronze bushings for the Gears, half a dozen bearings and then I can reassemble the trans.

Still slowly gathering parts for this build. All new heims for the suspension and I struck a deal with my neighbor who does plating and polishing. Had all the parts that were previously chrome done again as it was pealing. Few other parts were polished. A short video https://youtu.be/rhoJ5AwyJwc

Sexy! What’s the story behind the expansion chamber being cut, how does it mount? |

This piece connects the pipe to the Engine. It only came with one and this one needs repaired. It sat so long with water in it that it rusted a couple pin holes in the lowest part. I figured I would have someone weld it and copy this one for the side that is missing. In theory they slide/twist together but the previous owner used a pry bar to get them apart. Not super pretty but still functional.

That’s pretty cool, real estate is limited in these things, so having a segmented pipe might be an easier install. |

Thank you, they will be chromed for sure. I have a set of the Champion Beadlocks that I will get polished as well as some other small parts. |

This one is done, if that’s what you mean. One of the Briggs I picked up from Peter K. Came as a roller, I traded Rusty (shoudaba??) another buggy to install a rotax 583 and he also made a 5.5 gallon fuel cell for it. Should be fun!!!

Nice work, that’ll rip! Those cars are terrific. I was asking about the wheel maker in Cali... Are they still making Champion wheels out there? I heard they had a big loss in the family. |

I didn’t know they were closed. Googled it and did some reading. From what I’ve read they are still closed. The smaller size wheels they stopped making years ago. I talked to them 4-5 years ago and they would of been to costly to make again. You can also go with sprint car wheels. I have a very used set of Sanders racing wheels in 13”. I’m not a fan of their design (no bell on the wheel halves) but they do work. I was able to pick up a couple sets up Champions wide rear 13” wheels and a set of fronts here recently. I did have OMF make some centers for me in 4x130, 4x110 so I could mess around and put the wheels on a pilot. |

It’s had heat cycles done on the rotax and has been out once. It should be making its way back to me in a few weeks. Then have to get it registered so I can get offroad stickers (BS) and head out to the desert and dunes. |

Haven’t done a whole lot lately to the buggies as it’s so hot and all the parts I had out getting repaired are still out. Here are a few pics of the EEE. The old 583 (89) had a cracked crankshaft. Set the new Engine in the frame with a set of empty transmission cases. Old Engine had 38mm carbs I believe while the new one has 40’s. The extra depth of the oil injection rotary valve cover makes the carbs sit to close to the trans. So I’m going to swap RV covers and get some larger carb adapters. After that then some 90 degree boots up to a sealed air cleaner assembly. The 583 water pump cover exits the side and I need one that exits the top. The 617 rotax has that type. Here are a few pics
