Left one came off of a late 90’s 583 I picked up off eBay. I bought the block off and removed the oil setup. Problem is that setup and the connecting boots put the carbs right on top of the trans with no room for an air cleaner. So I pulled the original one of the old bad crank Engine. The old carbs were junk and the new carbs are 40’s not 39’s so I’m waiting on new mikuni carb mounts. The RV cover on the right is from a early 70’s Blizzard 7500/9500 model sled. I couldn’t find anything on it so I joined a group on fb and have been asking questions. This setup lets me keep normal carbs (which I like better) and moved them about 3 1/2” away from the trans. There are 2 styles to that RV cover. One is flat and the other is angled to help the carbs sit flat. They are few and far between though as I’ve only seen one of the angles covers.
The Briggs rusty put the 583 in has the watercraft carbs and changing jets is going to suck for a minute or two. He made me a set of braces to help support the weight of the carbs.

o the RV covers the one on the left if I'm not mistaken is an HO with the oil pump on top, what is the one on the right from? very interesting, I run premix so no need for the pump and that looks like it would be a stronger base to mount the carbs onto, I had issues with the plate the bolss to the cover breaking with the watercraft carbs.

I have watercraft carbs on my pilot, the 650 GTX carbs are rotated 90 degrees so the access to the jet plate is in back, and yes you do need to have some support or the plate that mounts the carbs to the RV plate will crack, found out the hard way.

Have you tried fitting the shorty cover on? I have one from a sea doo without an oil pump, the bolt pattern is off so it would not work but also it would not go all the way in due to the length of the RV spline that is setup for driving the pump, was wondering if that cover would have enough clearance?

The short cover works. It was originally on a sled 583 from the late 80’s. (That Engine died) I’ve test fit it in the newer 583 (1999). I was also told the ski RV covers wouldn’t work. They are only set up for spigot type carbs though. They have a 40mm opening so maybe an adapter could be made to keep the watercraft carbs. I can take some pictures of you would like.

That would be good to have, I wonder if Hoser could possibly setup a directory for Engine swaps? be good to have a place to put that type of info, I was going to say Rotax section but I know swaps are not limited to the rotax :)
