Out at Amargosa Dunes this weekend with PPP. Have the Triple E and my pilot out. Chad has his Phazer Pilot and the 800 Pilot out.

To be in this part of Nevada at the end of May is amazing. The weather through May has been great here. We normally will go to the coral pink dunes in Utah for Memorial Day. But the camp sites are under a few inches of water with possible snow. Small dunes but so far the place is deserted. The Pilot ate a belt, otherwise so far so good. Will make one more run for the evening in the Triple E. |

PPP 800 is still a work in progress. No plastics, no belts, no choke, and the foot tub is set in it. It runs well. A couple rides to make sure nothing falls off and then he will start putting it back together. My spare belt is junk for the Pilot so will just run the EEE.

So the carb boot took a dump today while on a ride. Wouldn’t idle down when lifting so after stopping and checking it out I see this. It never had a support for the carb but looks like one will be in the works. Chad had a bore scope with him so we took a video of the inside of the cylinder. Bob https://youtu.be/VNAL9BQUPG4

It is stupid fast, my brain isn’t that quick anymore. It will definitely put a giant smile on your face. On the safety side there are no belts, foot tub is set in only, battery hold down is a zip tie. Lol. I have a longer video I will post on YouTube then copy the link here later. It is one of the better riding and handling LT pilots I have driven.

The best part of that video is when you're going up a dune and all I can see is blue sky and clouds. It's like you are in an aircraft flying. But what I noticed is you guys never seem to crest a dune and go down the other side. You always seem to turn left or right into the sand you can see. Is this a safety thing ?? I wana see an old "Rat Patrol" dune crest .Also noticed a few plants right in the middle of the sand. WTF how can it survive in nothing but sand ?? CO |

If ya can’t see what’s there then you cross over instead of going straight over. It’s a safety thing, lots of people get smacked that way. If you can see far enough ahead then it is possible. I did do it once on a smaller dune. Chads son was actually asleep in the Can-Am so we just easily made our way back to camp. I have only been to these dunes a couple times so until still learning the dunes. Like a track, the more you ride it the better/faster you go. Besides I’m 53, I’ve learned to slow down, it’s easier on the body. It rains it’s fair share out there, right after this ride it poured for about 40 minutes. There is more vegetation than people think. Between the plants and beetles those are the two biggest reasons most of the sand dunes on the west coast have limited riding areas especially along the coast. I've never been to Amaragosa Dunes, how does it compare to Dumont, area size and size of dunes? looks like you had an awesome day, clouds look great. |

Area wise it is considerably smaller but the tallest dunes are about the same around 500 feet. The weather is about the same nice in the winter and no fun in the summer. The road doesn’t appear to be maintained but on the other hand there aren’t 1000’s of people showing up. We probably had a total of 40-50 people there over the weekend. They are as much fun as Dumont with out the crowds and craziness. At the North end of the dunes are the steep longer ones. The sand at he top is very unstable and you know it when you get into it. Whips are required but and not sure about stickers because so few people had them. Bob |
