Now, this sounds perfect! It’s a 14-hour trip for me. Looks like I just need the 10’ flags.

Not a bad journey for the best dunes in the heartland. EZpilot comes down from Indiana, about the same as you. hope you can make it

Do they sell the flags there? Or I need to just buy online I guess? No flags required in Georgia.

Most of the riding spots here in GA are closed for business during this pandemic.

Keep an eye on Little Sahara. They have some notices posted and reduced operation/activities. Looks like small groups are restricted to 10 people. I guess riding is still OK at this point in time. You might check just before you go here click on the COVID19 notices:

As of April 12th the park was still open, the Oklahoma govnah said today that he will be letting some non essential businesses open back up for business so I doubt the park will close.

Everyone is still going as far as I know, Ill be there rain, shine or coronavirus!

Cool, sand tires arent a requirement but sure do help when keeping up with the TazCars :-) :-)

We all booked at Buttercup Campground, Cowboy campground is very close. Also theres plenty private campgrounds there too like Deuces Wild and not too far from us. We have stayed there, its usually quiet but further from the dune entrance

Well,

Today I blew the knuckle out in my 400 pilot. and my 600HO pilot has carbs which act like moving targets.

In short, both machines broke down today at my normal riding place. Not happy. Outa beer. Going to bed.

Its a new day - gotta get better. Post up some pictures of the knuckle. You got me curious. Did the upper ball joint give way or did the bearings fail?

Carbs compared to moving targets - how can they vibrate that much? We need more details.

My advice - go to town and buy more beer and ice. :-)

The ball joint is fine. Looks like a sealing issue may have caused major bearing failures. This was just rebuilt with Nachi bearings and new seals not even 6 months ago.

I don't think I have seen a failure like that before. Man that looks chewed up. Are the pieces of the bearings lost in the sand?

Plenty of grease. Gotta get those races off and inspect - see if they spun on the hub shaft or if they spun in the knuckle. Hopefully all is good and you just need new bearings and seals.

I would inspect the other side as well.

The grease everywhere is because the failure split open the axle boot and slung grease everywhere.

Oh, both the hub and the knuckle are destroyed. Also the axle took a beating as well. Two main parts are going to get replaced and fingers crossed the axle did not lose life #9 out of 9.

Zero - I have to ask - did you have the spacer collar between the bearings when you serviced it 6 months ago?

Part 1 in the diagram. I can not see it in the picture of the hub. It should be between the two inner races.

And if you did install it, did you measure it to make sure it was within spec (not to thin)?
