I will be stripping and rebuilding a yellow machine to stock appearance as close as possible. I am already dismantling piece by piece, and prepping metal for powder coating. I have alot of unanswered questions I hope some people here can answer.

The site is slow so be prepared to wait for answers sometimes. Many old time members have left and only show up occasionally. Below is some stuff. I have been stalking you guys for a while. There was no oil in the gear box. There was no gasket I the exhaust. I do have something floating around in the exhaust. Bot for sure what it is yet. Can't look in the end and see whats broke. I will probably cut it apart and see if I can fit it. |

I also feel like I have too much end play on the crank. motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) was "gone through" for a spare machine. It hasnt ran in at lest a year, took me about 20 minutes and I had it running. The more I drove it the better it ran, but I know it had too much oil it it from the gas evaporating. We use these for parades for the shrine. This is my second machine, my last one was 20+ years ago. I bought this one to get back into it.

The FL250 gearbox is easy to rebuild. Make sure you inspect the chain per the manual. If the chain breaks it wraps around the lower gear and crack the case. Don't ask me how I know. Oh ya - that carrier bearing is rusty and needs to be replaced   I take it the first pictures are your goal, not what you are starting with. Am I correct? |

The first pictures are the machine I am tearing down. Its a little rough under all that lip stick. Does anyone happen to have a good part number for crank bearings? I would believe that I need a koyo, or a timken. |

I still have some questions about the exhaust. I have something floating around inside. I don't think this is normal, is there a good spot to cut it open and inspect? |

The carrier bearing is shot, almost seized actually, it has spun on the axle. I'm torn right now between buying a new axle and running it. There is probably too much clearance at this point, so I'll probably be looking towards a new one. |

Don't cut nothing apart -- bore scope it first. Go see a buddy at an auto shop. They probably got one and will let you look free. Thanks CO, I didnt think about a bore scope. Ordered bearings today. All gear box bearings, and crank bearings was 155 bucks. A complete gasket set came yesterday. Id like to find a copper head gasket. I feel in the long run I'd be better off with one. |

I do have a fl250 motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )), with a cr250 top end floating around some where, it came with another fl250 that is built for flat track I believe. But its a basket case. I'll add some pictures of those when I get close to them. |

I wasn't planning on a complete tear down but I got frustrated today with everything on the front end being bad. And to properly paint it I feel it all needs to come apart.

I was at this point in my 84' rebuild. Keep your head up and keep plugging away. Nothing more satisfying then getting in that machine for the first ride when its all done and new again. The durable axle brand was a great purchase for me and was everything they said it was in quality and durability. |

Maybe I need to start looking for a new axle for the finished product then. I have about 75% of everything sandblasted, going to repowdercoat the cage, and front bumper with black, and clear. New fenders are here, I think at this point I just need to order tie rod ends and it will be all new for moving parts. |

Check the frame for cracks and weld up if any, now is the time before you PC. My old 77 Fl 250 had cracks. |
