Well, just smoked my torque clutch and turns out these disks are discontinued. Mine are under spec.

Any alternatives out there? i know you can get the fiber disks aftermarket from EBC

22401-HE0-000 SPRING, CLUTCH
22201-HE0-000 DISK, CLUTCH FRICTION
22311-HE0-000 PLATE, CLUTCH

I would try another supplier.. I just got a couple of sets of plates and I also picked up some EBC fiber plates and then used spacers to increase spring preload as my springs were under spec as well...

How did you determine the thickness of the spacer? To thin and not enogh pressure clutchs slip to offten. To thick and to much pressure and the clutch does not slip, putting nondesired torque on internal tranny part.

th springs do not fall out of spec because of ware but I assume being compressed and going through heat cyles over a period of time.

Whats the condition of your oil? What oil are you running?

I would recommend more frequent oil changes to get the tranny cleaned up, assuming you are not going to terat it apart. The cork face of the plates had to go someplace. the Steel plate should not wear to much as long you do not let the cork wear off the plates.

Make sure you soak the new EBC p[lates in oil before you install.

You could probably run the plates the way they are. If you get new EBC clutch plates and keep an eye on the condition of the oil, watching for contamination of worn EBC plates, you may be ok. Also space you springs like go oddy did.

Can you give us a idea of how your pilot reacted when you first noticed you had a problem please. That way we will have an idea if it ever happens to one of us.

What are you using for a new gasket on the clutch cover?

Sorry so many questions.

as far as oil changes, i have one good ride on this oil, plus a few rides around my shop so it shouldn't be too bad. my old cork plates still have some meat left on them so it didnt get to metal to metal.

If i do not find any plates, i will use the old ones as is with a spacer on the spring.

When they went bad, it was like a switch. It was okay was delivering the torque and probably slipping slightly and i wasn't noticing. then i went to launch it and it sounded like i was spinning the shit out of the tires... but there was no tire spin. Did it again and it was just slipping. Took it for a short spin down the flat and i could hear the basket around the plates rattling. not sure why it was. took the clutch cover off and it all smelt like burnt oil.

as far as the gasket, when i took the cover off it did not hurt the old gasket since it hasnt been together for long. the gaskets i used i bought from a member here.. i want to say it was you? i bought trans gaskets when i was rebuilding the alabama pilot.

I've been using the ferodo clutch fibers ever since I started this thread and they have held up fine. used then old plates, soaked the new fibers in oil, and installed spacers on the springs. just used standard washers that ibenlarged the center hole to fit around the posts in the clutch pack.

this seems to be working great, not any excessive slippage. I am still able to get wheelies with my 670 :)

Thanks for the update, the above ebay links were dead did some searching found some info to document here.

The old ebay link said Ferodo-Clutch-Plates-for-1989-1993-Honda-FL400-Pilot-4-Wheeler-NEW so I Googled it and found another link on ebay and found the following pictures, in the one pic I searched for numbers and found more info on these plates.

First I searched for ferdo fcd0182
http://www.ferodoracing.com/catalogue/detail_clutches.php?cat=clutches&code=FCD0182
Found some cross reference numbers EDIT Cross reference numbers need confirmed!
EBC CK 1221

I disagree with the EBC cross reference. I believe it should be EBC CK1234.

I believe you are correct. the ferodo ones I am using are the FCD0182. they measured out the same as the ebc kit.

Why do you disagree with the cross reference, I am only going by what they provided, does not mean its right, this whole parts chase thing is trial and error lol Hopefully someone can confirm then update this thread I know others will need them sooner or later.

Still need to figure out a application so we can find the steel plates and so we can find some more springs :-)

Thanks for the help!

I just re-ordered these clutch plates from partzila a few weeks ago with another part order for the heck of it. I ordered 12. 3 arrived today with 9 on order from Honda. was told they should be in in a few days. so we will see if they really ship or not. strange I was told last year that they weren't available. would Honda have built more?

Did you order the 22311-GC4-730 clutch plates? If not they are an exact match and might still be available.
