1995 Rotax 583, so does the water pump push coolant through the Engine or pull it through which leads to the question what radiator goes where like from the water pump to top of radiator or bottom depending on the push/pull question. I've looked in the shop manual but it didn't say?
Thanks

It's drawn through the Engine by the water pump beneath the exhaust. I capped off the top port on the head its not necessary for strait radiator flow. The thermostat is the port on the back side of the head.

Back when I put my 440 ROTAX in my Pilot I talked to a guy who use to road race these engines they trans planted them into a small road race car of some type anyways he said I would not need the T stat since I didnt have the cold to deal with in the winter so I never used one never had any cooling problems so far, no clue if this applies to the ROTAX your using just thought I would share what I learned about my Type 454 Engine swap.

Exhaust side coolant hose to bottom of the radiator. Engine head coolant line to the top of the radiator is how I set my 582/583 up.

That's how I have mine set up as well. There are a couple different water pumps. Some jet skis have a side facing outlet that you will need in order to run electric start. The stock water pump on my 617 faced downward and would hit the starter. I ended up just cutting it off and turning it 90 degrees. The radiator I used is a 99 honda civic two core. You can get them on eBay with a electric fan for about $75. I also added trail tech vapor temp sensor into the head where the factory skidoo sensor was.

My 583 is a Farr kit and came with the port on top of the head. So should I change that to the side of the head? Does it make a difference?

I'm not sure on a 583 but my 617 has the thermostat on the back. I took the top outlet and swapped it to the side due to the 90 degree outlet. If you use the top port I don't believe you will have a thermostat.

It does not matter what port on the head that you use. What does matter is... Does it have a thermostat in there?
Regards

Are these radiator hoses 1inch to the rotax block or are you squeezing on 7/8 hose?

On rotax engines like the 470,521,580,583,617,670 the waterpump pushes the coolant through the Engine, On all the engines I sell I remove the thermosat so either outlet on the head can be used depending which is best for how you run your hoses
