You can set it up for whatever rake you want, but 14-deg should be plenty. For a good reference on angle...take a square piece of paper, fold it into a right triangle, halve that angle, and halve in again...that's 11.25-deg. You just have to make sure the tie rods are still located so as to minimize bump-steer. Compared to the quad, the left pair of a-arms is going to be further away than the right a-arms when mounted to the buggy. So you'll have to make some tie rod changes from the original setup anyways. What it boils down to is....see below: bullnerd wrote: Looks good.
Is the tie rod still parallel with the lower? Are you ready for this, The inner tie rod pivot is the center of the arc created by the outer tie rod pivot.Read this over and over and look at the pic below, this is one of the first ones I posted. The easiest way to find it now that you now the tierod length is(13.5?)is to tape a piece of cardboard roughly where you think the inner will be(you have a pretty good idea now right?).Put the cardboard vertical, basically right where your new bracket is.Now cycle your suspension(this is where knowing your shock lenghts would help)full bump, ride height, full droop.Put a magic marker in your inner rod end.Make an arc on the cardboard at each location(full bump,etc...).where these arc cross over is VERY close to where the pivot needs to be.If they don't cross over you can guesstimate the average of the three. |

I went to a buddys house to get measurements and took my angle finder so that i have something to start from when doing the conversion. I know the front a arm brackets are supposed to be lined up vertically from a side view and the back bottom a arm bracket is a little further back then the top. With the a arms set up like that, say you set the rake at 5 degrees and look straight down the ball joints, the top ball joint will be further forward than the bottom one. The spindle will also technically be tilted forward a little bit vs if you set the rake at 14 degrees, the ball joints will be lined up if you look straight down. So if you were to set the rake at less than 14 degrees and have the spindles tilted forward a little, will it affect the way the buggy handles with bump steer set up correctly? |

Hey bud, I scraped my original design and am going to build the sub-frame as you did. The front wheels would have been much to wide compared to the rear. I do have a question though. It appears that yours a-arms are parallel with the ground and when on the TRX450R they are slightly pitched down in the back. I was going to try to mimic this pitch on the FL350 but not sure if it is necessary. Any thoughts? |

I could of put more rake into it. The more caster the easier the steering self centers. On my second Oddy I put a little more into it. D$ I don't think read the question lol. That pic it to help find where the pivot points are. |

Just thought maybe is should update this. Last year I completely redid the front end. The goal was to add more rake to the front and improve ride handling. And now have almost no bump steer. I don’t have to fight the wheel as much reducing fatigue on the long 4-5hr rides. All in all I am very happy with the way it turned out
