Here are some pic's of what I have been trying to throw together for my ody...
I didn't like my spun tank leaking so much, and decided to try a 5 gallon fuel cell from a drag racing application... I am not 100% sold on the idea, and am hoping for some feed back???
I put the baja rack back on to see how it will protect it... I might have to find someone to weld me a aluminum box with specific diminsions and hope it gets close to 5 gallons.
The radiator is locked in and will survivie a roll/crashwithout bopping me on the head!. I want to make some scoops, and thus also isolate me from thhe fuel cell when being refueled while I am still in car.

That tank looks good. Are all of the spun gravity tanks prone to leaking? I was thinking of picking one up this week. Is that a banshee rad you have? The mounting looks good. I am going to need some ideas for that also.

Randy at Odysalvage.com showed me how to "fix" the venting on the tank, but I didn't want to fail a tech inspection if I ever get a chance to Race in AZ or CA...
I made the mountings for the radiator so I could use these pieces to hold fuel cell...
I might try a smaller tank, just have to sleep over it??? This just looks bigger than I thought it would be

You going to be able to fill the current tank in that location without spilling gas all over everything?

The radiator is not from a banshee, but a HONDA Goldwing, and it has/had a fan on a thermal switch. I don't think I will need the fan with the new location up behind my head???
I am hoping that there is enough clearance between rad and fuel cell for airflow...

I hope so the hole is HUGE like 4 inches!!! I will have to make a splash guard, and scoops to keep the fuel from going into the cockpit incase I have to refill when in cab...
got some more done today... I am 86'ing the baja rack for now untill I find a better way to build one...

I would have to agree about the splash guard, that is one massive hole for the gas.

I got 90% of the fuel cell install done and had to put it up for the weekend. Kid has a MX race and I have to pick up a load to San Diego tomorrow.

Davo,I would def be making a Catch or Drip tray for the Cell to sit in,for that one, with a drain spout safely routing the spillage, leakage away from the hot bits...Baz

Looks pretty damned good David, but I have to ask the obvious question...wheres the Engine? LOL

I am guessing you already are used to the added weight up high because of the spun tank. The spare tire rack may add even more up high so be careful. Shouldn't be a real noticeable problem unless you are really corning hard at speed. The trade off is extended range with a 5 gallon tank. I would have bet big money on a yellow tank. LOL

One thing that does bother me about that setup is that the cell blocks a good portion of the radiator flow. You said you did not run the fan with that radiator. Also, do you run a water pump? It will probably be alright but on the hot summer days, she might tend to get real hot without better cooling, in my experiences. STILL way better than air cooled any way you slice it.

I'll catch you in the chat to discuss it, looks good,

Gary

This current setup is not 100% yet... You bring up concerns I have already thought of, Number one no fan??? I had the fan installed on previous setup, but there wasn't enough room as is... A water pump will replace the fan, but I hope it can cool as well??? I then do not like the small corner that is exposed in case of roll over (knocks on wood!!!) And I have 2 options, #1 being to modify the rear down tubes by adding a piece 4 inches out and parallel or rebuilding the baha rack to be more secure... I would have to add a tube to the downward tubes on the side near the number plate.
option 2 is to find a shop that will make me a fuel cell to my diminsions and leave room for a fan, and cut the corners of the rear...
My previous setup used the fan often because it was behind my fueltank

I was running WC head and radiator w/fan, after adding a water pump, water temps dropped 30 degrees.

I almost forgt to tell you, I talked to a place here in OKC that said they can make a tank for you for about 3 to 400. I told them the tank size would be about 5 gallons in the shape of a triangle. They need me or you to drop off or fax the plans for a more precise price quote. I asked them about fabricating it in aluminum? As long as there isnt any type of coating inside the tank, they can make it. They will also add baffles to keep the gas from sloshing too much. I told them you would provide the stem and gas cap, and they said they would weld it on the tank where you want it. Anyhow just a suggestion and I thoght the price was right. I have used these guys for years and they do excellent work. They fab all kinds of tanks but not gas so maybe someone can chime in here if I am missing anything to tell them in reguards to building the tank. The name of the place is Custom Stainless , they are located east of N. May Ave. at about NW 3rd st. Good luck dude.
