 Post subject: Pilot Driven Clutch

While waiting for my top end parts to arrive for Pilot eng rebuild, I decided to remove and service my Driven.
I marked both the sheave faces a while back, and noticed that the blue marker was still visible down low indicating that it's not fully shifting into High ratio. See pics,am I right in assuming this? Also did straight edge check on the sheaves, and found low section about midway on fixed outer sheave,resulting in curved outer edge of New stock belt. The inner, movable sheave face seemed OK.
Is it possible to spread the sheaves apart by hand,counter-rotating them as was possible on the 350 Ody's?
Or is it cause the spring is too strong?
Anyway,checkout the pics and tell me if you think the sheaves are shifting out far enough?...Thanks, Baz.

How hard was it to separate the spring from the plastic bushing?


Maybe you have read this before or seen it someplace else on the web about reducing the friction, I removed some material from the spring to change the spring rate during some testing of different combinations but you can take it all off the bushing so the spring will bind up as bad http://pilotodyssey.com/pilotdriven.htm

Bloody Hard Work,never took one apart before.They were stuck together pretty good,like a sailor on ya sister!
Looking at the pics, do you think it's shifting out enough? Have new PB Clutch and Mitsu Belt new.

How come in the HRD Cover pics, there are diff lenght rivets, some with washers,holding the puck guide plates?
Would'nt they upset the balance at speed and promote the bolt n washer to wear thru the end cover?...Baz

I assume that is balance washers, how the factory balances the the clutch assembly... I could never get the factory to answer any questions by email, you would think someone who BOUGHT clutches from them would ask but he never did for some UNKOWN reason.

Goday Baz, been busy. The clutch face are worn and will need to be replaced as well as the spring. I would like to see drive face if hrd unit. I had posted some pics a while back for you to review conserning this and how it affectes your run out and out of cornor speed and power transfer. Your worn driven faces most likly started with stock or alt clutch with too little weight as well as time. With your new motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) start fresh with driven faces and clutch springs in both drive and driven it will help dial in your drive better as not to fight with the wear groves on up and back shifting. The worn driven will cause the belt to hang too long in that spot increasing wearon belt and not allowint the driven to run out ( like staing in fourth reving motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) to limit with out shifting into fifth)or belt jump stalling motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) rpm ( rough transition in gearing, mostly noticed in rpm change on straights). Break time over at the school I,am working on There computor. Good luck and enjoy the new motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )).
